Roberts, R. (2014). Please don’t tell my parents I’m a supervillain. Curiosity Quills Press.
Age Range: 13+
Penelope Akk wants to be a superhero just like her parents. It doesn’t matter that she’s only thirteen, or that none of her friends have developed their powers, either. She just wants to help fight crime and defeat supervillains. She wants to surprise her parents once her superpowers are fully developed, but a series of poor choices ends up with her branded as the newest supervillian in town. This book is good for all ages. Penelope is relatable as a middle school student, while the puns and light-hearted humor will attract older readers. There are several plots that aren’t fully resolved by the end, but this is the first of a seven book series. The potential love triangle between Penelope and her friends/henchman takes a secondary role, which is exciting and refreshing.
